Amy Robach, TJ Holmes exes get engaged to each other three years after high-profile ABC News cheating scandal

Former ABC News hosts Amy Robach and T.J. Holmes famously lost their jobs in 2023 when their became tabloid fodder. Three years later, their exes have found love — with each other.

Robach and Holmes have insisted that they were "outed, not caught" because they were in the midst of divorce proceedings when several intimate photos taken without their knowledge were published by The Daily Mail in 2022. But the scandalous affair rocked the media industry and ultimately resulted in their high-profile exits from ABC News.

Robachs ex-husband, actor Andrew Shue, and Holmes ex-wife, Marilee Fiebig, reportedly grew close as the saga . On Wednesday, Shue and Fiebig announced they are engaged to be married.

"I dont know how it happened, but theres a happy ending," Shue told People when confirming the engagement.

"Im grateful," Shue added. "I had to grow through a lot of pain and a lot of struggle and a lot of humility."

Dr. Tammy Nelson, a relationship expert and a licensed psychotherapist, isnt surprised Shue and Fiebig found happiness.

"When two people go through a similar life transition, it can create a bond in ways other experiences can't. It can create emotional connection, but a lasting relationship will mean they both have to work together to create something new," Nelson told Fox News Digital.

"It can be hard to start over after divorce. But divorce doesnt mean youve failed at love," Nelson continued. "It can mean youre going into your next relationship with a clearer idea of who you are and what you want."

Nelson feels privacy is critical for a couple like Shue and Fiebig, whose relationship unfolded publicly.

"Sometimes, couples need the space to discover what's real between them before inviting outside opinions and scrutiny into their relationship. Having control over what you reveal, to whom and when, can help create an environment where trust and intimacy can develop naturally," Nelson said.

People also revealed that Robach and Holmes are now married following a private ceremony in September.

"I had to accept my own part in marriage not working out for me and in not understanding myself well enough and not understanding what matters in a relationship well enough to find the right person for me, and that has been an extraordinary gift," Shue told People.

"I think the magic of love is when you go from a need to giving," he continued. "I dont think there was anything other than this just happened to be our way of getting to know each other and being able to share ourselves with each other in a time where we both needed a friend."
